Hi, I'm Matt Bigelow.

At a very young age I found myself drawn to music and the arts. I dabbled on piano, teaching myself enough to enjoy the instrument. I also had a strong draw to rhythm and percussion, but couldn’t bring myself to commit to a full drum kit.

Around 2019, I was introduced to my first handpan and immediately fell in love. It was a perfect balance of rhythm, percussion, and musical composition, giving way to such a wide range of musical expression that I hadn’t experienced until that day.

From that moment on, the handpan has become an irreplaceable part of my everyday life, offering peace, creative outlet, and spiritual reflection. It’s been a joy getting to know others in the handpan community, which has been a warm, welcoming, and ever growing group of individuals who share this passion around the entire globe.

My background has always been in creative arts and design in some way. I've been a full-time photographer for 16 years, was co-owner of Beehive Picture Hangers working in product development and design, and currently own Crema Coffee Products, creating innovative products for the most popular at-home espresso machines..

My past work with product development has always been with optimization and problem solving in mind. After spending enough time with handpans, my mind followed this same trend, searching for ways to improve the user experience.

My goal with Rhythm Rest was to create a high quality, yet affordable solution to a problem – comfort and stability for your instrument. This is a problem that can not only cause discomfort while playing, but in more severe situations, can also cause damage to your instrument if the instrument slides off your lap. All of the materials sourced are high quality, made to last, and designed to be used without causing any damage to your instrument.

Keep playing.
